Shana Nicole Johnson’s story began when she was born on July 13, 1979, in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Barbara Johnson and the late Milton McCants. Shana was called to eternal rest on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
Shana received her early education from the Wilmington Public School System, and was a member of Delcastle Technical High School’s Class of 1997. Shana was an exceptional learner, and that passion for learning was the driving force for her attending and graduating from Dawn Career Institute and Harris Institute as a medical assistant.
Shana loved the Lord and her relationship with Him was cultivated through her family church, Ebenezer Baptist Church. At an early age, she received the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized on February 14, 1988, under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Lewis Johnson. She continued her Christian journey and remained a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church until her passing under the leadership of Rev. Gilbert S. Hamm, Sr. Shana adored her church family and she was a proud member of the Sanctuary and Mass Choir.
Shana was very loving, she ALWAYS had a smile on her face. If you had a chance to hang around Shana, you were truly going to have a good time. Shana loved to watch television, listen to music, sing, go shopping, eat at her favorite restaurants, and hang out with her family, the Old Lady Gang, and friends. She was an avid reader, it wasn’t uncommon to find her reading a good book, and when it became challenging visually, that didn’t stop her, she would listen to the audio versions of her favorite books or series. Bottom line, she never gave up! Shana trailblazed through her trials! She was resilient through all challenges that came her way, and she was determined to enjoy life. Her vibrant presence will be truly missed.
She was predeceased by her parents, Barbara Johnson and Milton McCants, grandparents, George and Mildred Johnson, two uncles, James Green, and Oscar Palmer; cousins, Krystal Collins-Olowalafe, and Deshon Sellers.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her devoted mother, Diane Johnson; stepfather Robert Wiggins; two devoted aunts, Catherine Johnson of Rochester, NY, and Geraldine Sellers of Smyrna, DE; devoted uncle, George E. Johnson (Susie) of Decatur, GA; a host of devoted cousins; a spiritual aunt, Shelley Nix; godmother, Patricia Tann; devoted friends; Liz Collins, Keysha Harmon, and Glenda Downs; godchildren; Elijah Holmes, Sean Gibbs, Jennell Pierce, Justin Wiggins, Branden Harmon, and Keiera Harmon; a host of devoted family and close friends.
