Ruth Grimes was born on August 21, 1930 in Wilmington, Delaware. She departed this earthly life on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. Ruth was the daughter of the late Margie Ann Hunter-Perkins and Daniel Wright.
Ruth was educated in the Wilmington public school system. She attended Howard High School, and after leaving high school, she became a mother of nine children. She was previously employed as a factory worker and a domestic worker. She was last employed as a Foster Grandparent at St. Michael’s Daycare for over 20 years.
Ruth was a faithful member of Ezion Mount Carmel United Methodist Church. She was a longstanding member of the Senior Ushers. She served as the Recording Secretary for 20 years with the Senior Ushers. She also served as a member of the Grand United Order of Tents.
Ruth had a great love for reading and was an avid reader. She was a person who never got old or believed she was old.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Nathaniel (Nat) Grimes, mother Margie Ann Hunter-Perkins, father Daniel Wright, two brothers Robert Lee and Matthew Perkins, sister Melinda Perkins, daughter Darlene Grimes, son Nathaniel Perkins, and grandson Kenneth Grimes, II.
Ruth is survived by her seven children: Douglas (Michelle), Bruce (Andrea), Kenneth (Sharon), Ronald, Patricia, Cathy, and Steven, two brothers Dennis and Gary Riley, sister Hattie (Zudy) Perkins, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
