Rose B. Coates known affectionately as “Rose Mo-Jane Coates died on Tuesday April 29th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born Rosa Beatrice Russell on April 14th, 1943, in Damascus, Georgia to the late Clinton and Sally Russell. 

In her early childhood her family moved to Delaware to pursue new business ventures and a better life for their family. They successfully settled in the Wilmington area. She attended and received her early education at Drew Pyle School. She began her early career in housework and was very loved and admired for her dedication and skills in the community. 

She later began her career in sales and marketing working for Avon. She met her first love Robert Sylvester Coates. From this union, they had two children Artinus Caritha Coates and Robert Sylvester Coates Jr. In Robert Sr untimely death, Rose was able to rebuild her life for herself and her children. 

She found a new love, in Eugene Dorsey, where they raised many children and built a wonderful life together. Rose, also known as Mo-Jane, loved to spend time with her family and friends, attend events at the racetrack, watch her favorite stories and TV shows, talk on the phone with her close friends, play cards, do puzzles with her grandchildren, and cook and sew. She was well known for her cooking abilities and loved having big events where she could spend time with her family. She was a believer in The Most high and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She was a devoted Homemaker and Avon Sales and Marketing Manager, where she worked with them for over 15 years.

 Not only was Rose a Beloved Mother, Daughter, Companion, Sister, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend, she was known for her unique quotes in life, quick comebacks and loving advice that will last and stay with you forever. Some of her quotes:

2. You don’t have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out

4. God don’t like ugly and he’s not to fond of cute

Through all of Rose's trials and tribulations she achieved many accomplishments and committed herself to being an upstanding woman raising morally valued intelligent young adults, with her most cherished being her two children. Where her bond with her son could withstand any storm and they would still be standing firm together. She truly delighted in her grandchildren and was always honored to see their accomplishments and goals. 

She is preceded in death by her Daughter Artinus C. Coates, Parents, Clinton and Sally Russell, sisters Rosamae, Eva Mae and Leona, brothers George and Clinton “Clayton” Russell, and her beloved Robert Sylvester Coates Sr. She is survived by and leaves to cherish her memories her Loving and Devoted Companion Eugene Dorsey, Beloved Son Robert Sylvester Coates Jr. Grandchildren who affectionally called her “Granny”: Lakesha Coates, George Coates (Jenni) Latoya Coates, Robert Coates lll, Shantel Davis, Randall Coates, Shanice Davis-Henry (Justin), Jenelle Rose McKenzie and Ace Coates. Great Grandchildren Essence and Markell, whom she shared a deep bond with, are the first girl and boy to be born among Rose’s Great Grandchildren. Tyreke, Dayon, Aaliyah, Rashod, Randy Jr, Ra’Nieir, Darrien, RaKawn, Rainen, Ramaun, Justice, Serenity, Rah’Mere, Camille, Ezra, Leiani, Chole, Naomi and Airiana. Special nephew Barry Durkins, Special Niece Martha Robert’s and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family.
