The Life and Legacy of Robert James Lewis

Robert James Lewis, lovingly known as “Bob” or “Bobby Lew,” was born on January 17, 1946, in Wilmington, Delaware, to the late Edith Lewis. He transitioned from earth to glory on February 13, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.

Bob received his early education in the Wilmington public school system and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1964. Shortly after graduation, he proudly answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army. He completed three years of dedicated service and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. Upon returning to civilian life, Bob began his career at the Chrysler Assembly Plant in Newark, Delaware. While working full-time at Chrysler, Bob continued to invest in his future by enrolling at the University of Delaware, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. What started at Chrysler as a position on the assembly line grew into a remarkable 42‑year career, culminating in his retirement as an Industrial Engineer. In addition to his long and distinguished career at Chrysler, Bob also pursued his passion for helping others achieve their dreams of homeownership. He worked part‑time as a real estate agent with MetroStar Realty. His ability to connect with people and guide them through important life decisions was yet another reflection of his generous spirit.

Bob was a faithful and devoted member of Community Presbyterian Church, where he poured his time, energy, and love into the life of the congregation. Over the years, he served on numerous committees, including Elder, Deacon, member of the Usher Board, the Finance Committee, and the Saturday morning Food Pantry distribution team. His commitment to service was unwavering, and he approached every responsibility with humility and purpose. Bob also shared his passion for sports with the youth of the church, coaching the co‑ed basketball team to a league championship - a moment he cherished and spoke of often. His leadership extended beyond the church walls as well. He was a proud and dedicated member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., where he once served as Polemarch and helped guide the chapter with integrity and vision. Among his many contributions, he took pride in supporting and advancing the Kappa Klassic Basketball Tournament, an event that brought the community together. His commitment to young people extended even further through his service as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Bob loved music, and his home was often filled with the sounds of his favorite artists - Luther Vandross, the Marvelous Marvin Gaye, Phyllis Hyman, and Earth, Wind & Fire. Every now and then, you might catch him “trying” to dance along. A devoted sports fan, he enjoyed watching basketball and football, always cheering for the Philadelphia 76ers and the Philadelphia Eagles. He also found joy in playing chess, checkers, and spades with family and friends.

Bob is preceded in death by his mother, Edith, and his step-brother, James Henson.

Bob leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Joyce Lewis; his daughters, Jina Komla, Edith Victor (Ian), and step-daughter Joy Flonnory (Isaac); and his beloved grandchildren, Jordan Edwards, Amlavi Komla, Maimouna Komla, Elyse Lewis, Sydni Victor, and Elon Victor. He is also survived by his step‑sister, Jaqueline Robinson; his childhood best friend, Alan Lawrence; and a host of sister-in-law's, brother-in-law's, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
