Rebecca V. Butler, a devoted mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, was born to Edith Rhoadas and Raymond Pettyjohn on May 22, 1935, in Milford, Delaware, and peacefully passed away on August 10, 2025, in New Castle, Delaware.
Educated at Benjamin Banneker in Milford, Rebecca was known for her sweet spirit, warm heart, and unwavering devotion to her family. She worked tirelessly throughout her life, holding multiple jobs in the Wilmington area to provide for her children. Her dedication, strength, and love for her family were unmatched—her children were truly her world.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Geneva, Ella May, Webster, Corinda, Sylvester, and Wesley, as well as her dear son, Michael Butler. Among her siblings, she shared an especially close bond with Corinda. They were inseparable—two peas in a pod—spending countless hours together enjoying their favorite shows, from Columbo and Perry Mason to Sanford and Son, Dark Shadows, and their beloved daytime soap operas. Their laughter and companionship left a legacy of love that will always be remembered.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Bonita Davis, Startene Banks (Julius Banks), Ronald Butler, and Dwayne Butler. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy. Nothing delighted Rebecca more than having her grandchildren visit, filling her home with laughter, stories, and love.
Rebecca had a gift for making a house feel like a home. She loved decorating and rearranging her space, always creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for family and friends. An avid reader, music lover, and dancer, she found joy in life’s simple pleasures and cherished every moment spent with loved ones. Family gatherings were her greatest joy, and her presence always brought comfort and happiness.
Rebecca will be fondly remembered for her humor and the little sayings that made her unique. Whether greeting loved ones with a playful “Tickle-Tickle” or calling someone a “rascal” with affection, she had a way of making everyone feel special.
Her sweet, caring nature and unshakable devotion to family will forever be treasured. Rebecca’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, and she will be deeply missed
