Pierre Andre Wright was born on September 20, 1953 to Jacqueline L. Dorsey Wright and Harry S. Wright, Sr.
Pierre’s life was a testament to perseverance, dedication, family, service, and resilience. From his early years in Wilmington, Delaware, through a lifetime of accomplishments and challenges, he touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy that will continue through his family.
Pierre spent his formative years in Wilmington, attending Stubb’s Elementary School, Warner Junior High School, and P.S. DuPont High School. During his school years, he developed a love for music and sports. He played baseball, participated in band and orchestra as a trumpeter and drummer, and was a proud member of the school’s State Championship Cross Country Team.
After high school, Pete attended the University of Delaware. His life soon entered a new and important chapter when he became a father to his daughter, Ebonese. Fatherhood became one of the defining blessings of his life and influenced many of the decisions he made in the years that followed.
Pierre began his professional career with Hercules Incorporated, where he worked with an innovative microfilm reproduction process used to update engineering drawings. Always committed to learning and advancement, he continued to develop his skills throughout his career.
In April 1976, Pete joined the United States Air Force Reserve, where he served until February 1982. During his military service, he trained as a Pneumatic/Hydraulic Technician and eventually became an instructor, teaching both in the classroom and on the airfield. His military experience strengthened his leadership, discipline, technical skills, and commitment to service.
In 1974, he was blessed with his first son, Pierre ”DeShawn”, and in 1978, another son, Jamar was welcomed into the family. That same year, he and Deborah A. Hollis united in holy matrimony. Family remained at the center of his life, and he worked diligently to provide for and support those he loved.
Professionally, Pierre spent more than 21 years working in the manufacturing industry with Hoover Universal, later associated with Johnson Controls and Schmalbach-Lubeca. During this time, he continued his education and earned a certificate in Managerial Business through Penn State.
Pierre’s curiosity and willingness to embrace new opportunities eventually led him into the field of computer technology. After earning his CompTIA A+ certification, he joined CompUSA as a computer repair technician and merchandise specialist. Through hard work and determination, he advanced to become Manager of Service and Sales for the East Coast school systems.
In 2005, Pierre ventured into entrepreneurship, starting a home computer repair business with a friend. He later worked in education, served as a manager with Sports Authority, and worked as a floor-care specialist with Delaware Detailing, Inc.
After decades of work and service, Pops, as he was affectionately called retired in September 2015 and continued to enjoy life, family, and friendships. In April 2018, Pops suffered his first stroke and, through God’s grace and mercy he survived while the experience deepened his appreciation for life, the people he loved, and the many individuals who provided care for him over the years as his health slowly declined.
Above all of his professional accomplishments, Pops greatest legacy is his love for family. He took great pride in being a loving father, beloved brother, dedicated uncle, doting grandfather, and adoring great-grandfather.
Pierre was preceded in his earthly transition by his brother, Robert O. Wright, I.
Pops leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Ebonese Pierce Brittingham; two sons, Pierre Deshawn Wright and Jamar Wright, Sr. (Carmen); siblings, C. S. Wright, Khadre Wright (Bernadette), Rev. Dr. Jacquita L. Wright-Henderson (Keith) and Erin Wright, nineteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, god-children, Tasha, Teiko and Pebbles;a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Pierre’s life was marked by perseverance in the face of challenges, a willingness to learn and grow, a commitment to providing for his family and the courage to embrace new opportunities.
Though his earthly journey has come to an end, the memories he created, the lessons he taught, the lives he touched and the love he shared will continue to live on in our hearts.
