Olistine (Foote) Davis transitioned from this life on September 19, 2025, in Newark, Delaware where she resided with her youngest daughter Monica.
Olistine (Foote) Davis was born December 21st, in Rockhill, South Carolina to the late Gage and Evelyn (Wylie) Foote. The family migrated north first settling in Boonton New Jersey, until 1949 when the family moved to Morristown, where Olistine united with Calvary Baptist Church of Morristown. Olistine attended the public schools of Morristown graduating from Morristown High School in 1957. She realized early that caring for others was her forte and worked as a nursing assistant at Shady Brook Nursing home in Chester.
In 1960, Olistine was wed in Holy Matrimony to James R. Davis, out of this union, 3 children were born, Mark Christopher, Marcy and Monica. They were all 1 year apart with July, August and September birthdays.
In 1969 Olistine became employed as a Mental Health Technician at Morristown Medical Center, then known as Morristown Memorial Hospital. Olistine loved caring for and working with all patients. On July 23, 2001, she was awarded the Humanistic Patient Care Award, from the NJ Healthcare Foundation. The award recognized compassion, empathy and respect in the delivery of care to patients. Olistine retired from a successful 34-year career in Mental Health in August 2001.
Stine, as she was lovingly known, could “sang” although she was a member of the Junior Missionaries and Youth groups, the choir was her delight. While singing with the James Coleman Gospel Chorus (also know as the Jaycees) she was asked to tour with James Cleveland and Lawrence Roberts but had to decline since she was expecting her first child. Stine loved Calvary Baptist Church of Morristown and her Paster, Rev. Dr. Jerry Carter; Stine was always a supportive church member of whatever the vision was. Stine taught Sunday school, arranged annual trips to Radio City Music Hall for the Christmas Show and directed the Calvary Choir for more than 10 years, while walking the streets of Morristown evangelizing. Olistine shared a special sisterly friendship for over 60 years with Deaconess. Mildred McCoy (known as “Mill”); The families traveled coast to coast in 1 van singing, having bible study and meeting Christians all over the U.S.A. Weekly they studied the word for efficient teaching in Sunday school and were leaders in the ministry. Traveling with their own children and others to the retreats at camp Lebanon Stine, was an asset wherever she went. Monthly she would assist Deaconess McCoy in washing communion glasses when Calvary only had 2 deaconesses.
Stine was a “pied piper of Calvary”, bringing the youth to Christ, by providing transportation to picnics, retreats and Baptist conventions. Her famed line to have them understand the seriousness of Jesus Christ was “Where will you Spend Eternity”? This always prompted a discussion about salvation. With Rachel Jones at the helm of the Sunday School, the trio would regularly attend the Music Workshops in Hampton VA, each June. Their diligence in teaching and evangelizing kept the Sunday School thriving to become the Sunday School Calvary has today.
Stine will be sorely missed, as she was genuinely respected and admonished by all who came in contact with her. She leaves to cherish her life and memory, 3 children: Mark Christopher of Greensboro, NC., Marcy Davis – Gabriel of Morristown and Monica Richardson- Holden (Dave) of Bear, Delaware; One brother Timothy Foote, Boston (Susan); 5 grandchildren, Eric Allred, Erin Allred, Jada Davis, Dena and Deanna Holden. Six great grandchildren, Xavier, Michai, Jada, Grae, Raelyn and Rajani and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
“But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.”
