Norman S. Wilkerson was born on November 4, 1946, in Wilmington, Delaware, to the late William and Marion Wilkerson. He peacefully gained his wings at home on July 22, 2025, after a lengthy illness.
Norman received his education in the Wilmington Public School System and graduated from Howard High School. After school he worked in a factory before becoming a truck driver, hauling freight out of the Port of Wilmington until his retirement in 2009.
Norman loved fishing with his brothers—the “Bowel Boys,” as they were affectionately known—especially in Kent Narrows, Maryland. He also cherished spending time with his nieces and nephews. A fan of westerns and sports, Norman was known as a sharp dresser, often seen in his pressed jeans, leather jacket, or stylish suits. He was deeply proud of his family and their musical talents.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. William and Mrs. Marion Wilkerson, and siblings: Florence Jeanette Wright, Lemuel Winchester, Millie Cannon, Harrison, Courtland,, Marion, William and Joseph Wilkerson, Mary Louise Purnell, George Wilkerson, Iris Jolly, Oscar and Preston Wilkerson and Barbara Ann Frazier.
He is survived by his children: Bryan ”Rauf” Paynter,( Karen), Lisa Wilkerson, Deirdre Leary(William) Dione Dorsey, Keya Glover(Roger),Lena Blackwell,( Harold), Devon Johnson,(Jay), and Levar Wilkerson. He is also survived by his sister, Aisha Muhammad(Tony); his brother-in-law, Wayne Purnell; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
