Matthew Derek Holden

Matthew Derek Holden, age 39, passed away on November 14th in Newark, Delaware. He was born on March 21, 1986, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Dorthea (Holden) Alston and Michael Boykin.

Matt grew up in Wilmington and received his education through the Wilmington public school system, proudly graduating from Concord High School. At just 14, Matt began his working life at the Western Branch YMCA. By 16, he found his professional path at Best Buy; a place that would shape more than two decades of his life. Throughout his 21-year career there, Matt served in numerous roles, made lifelong friendships, and met his other half, Morgan.

After starting a family, Matt pursued new opportunities to better support the people he loved. He joined Corporation Service Company (CSC) as a Team Leader of Client Service Operations, where he continued to make meaningful connections and positively impact every person he encountered.

Matt was a proud member of the Concord High School Marching Band, playing the trombone with spirit and dedication. A true AV enthusiast, he was known far and wide as the “go-to tech guy,” always eager to help others enhance their homes or solve a problem. In his youth, he loved playing roller hockey, and throughout his life he remained a vibrant, playful spirit.

He was well-known for his encyclopedic movie knowledge and unmatched ability to quote lines at exactly the right moment. Matt loved hosting friends and family, especially when smoking meats on his Traeger; ribs being his specialty. Whether it was cheering on the Eagles or the Flyers or simply gathering people together, Matt created joyful spaces wherever he went.

If you knew Matt, you knew his heart. He loved people deeply, brought effortless laughter into every room, and had a rare gift for lifting others up; even on their hardest days. Time with friends and family, especially at the beach, meant everything to him.

Matthew was preceded in death by his beloved son, Miles Declan Holden and his grandparents Marain and Edward Boykin, and Grace and Pernest Holden.

He is survived by his other half, Morgan Servis; his stepdaughter, Mckenzie; and Morgan’s entire loving family. He is also survived by his parents, Dorthea (Holden) Alston (Otis) and Michael Boykin; his brothers, Michael Darren Holden (Elizabeth) and Avery Boykin; his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and a host of relatives and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Matt’s warmth, humor, and kindness will be missed beyond measure by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
