Mary Jean Traylor, affectionately known as “Sister”, was the second child born to the late Abraham Traylor Sr. and Beatrice Traylor on December 7, 1953, at the family home in Yentley, Alabama. She transitioned into eternal peace on May 24, 2025, at the Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware.
As a child, Mary moved around with her family from Yentley, Alabama, to Detroit, Michigan, and finally settling in Wilmington, Delaware. Mary was educated within the Delaware public school system and received her high school diploma from Wilmington High School. Mary later continued her education at the Star Technical Institute in Wilmington, Delaware. It was here that she further pursued administrative training to enhance her knowledge and skills. Mary was then employed in various clerical positions for different employers throughout New Castle County.
At an early age, Mary received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She attended the St. Matthew’s Fire Baptized Holiness Church in Wilmington, Delaware, along with her family. During her time at the nursing home, she attended church services regularly on Sundays.
Mary was an avid reader who loved novels. Her stack of books were always close by. Mary also loved to dance, take a car ride around town, listen to music and watch tv with the volume turned all the way up. In addition, Mary loved to eat her chicken wings with fries and crabs. Mary always had a positive outlook on life no matter the challenges she faced. If she gave you a thumbs up, with her arm doing the chicken wing dance, then everything was fine.
She leaves to cherish her legacy, two sons Theron Sr. and Darrell, one brother Abraham Jr. (Nicole), one sister Yvette, five grandchildren (Zykerra, Shar-Ron, Shavon, LeAndre (Doobie) and Theron Jr. (TJ)), ten great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special thank you to the entire nursing home staff who provided care for Mary over the past 15 years.
