Leroy Early

Leroy Early was born on June 11,1941 in Marengo County Alabama to Peter and Olivia Early. He passed on August 11, 2026, in NY Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn NY.

Leroy received his early childhood education in Marengo County Alabama. In the early 1960s Leroy came to NY and worked various jobs. He soon opened his own barber shop in Red Hook Brooklyn NY on Clinton Street. He successfully ran his barber shop for about 10 yrs. Afterwards he purchased several trucks and became an independent trucker delivering large scale Xerox paper and large-scale food items and spices for big companies. He later went on to buy several 18-wheeler tractors and trailers and hauled large-scale building materials. Leroy inspired and taught several young men to drive tractor and trailer and then employed them. Leroy drove big rigs until he retired in 2017. Leroy also invested in real estate and purchased several homes, a restaurant and a church.

Leroy was a faithful supporter of The Nation of Islam. He attended Mosque # 35 in Wilmington DE. Leroy loved to watch national and international news and remain informed about national and international politics. He also loved to stay busy maintaining the large yard at his home.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Early and Olivia Early, his 2nd wife Cheryl Early, brother Eddie Early, his three sisters Elizabeth Leathers, Rose Early, Gladys Hinton, nephew Michael Early and niece Danielle Leathers.

Leroy is survived by his brother Harvey Early, 1st cousin Lawrence Eaton, two children Piqueta Early-Dacres and Ken Early, son in law Floyd Dacres, two grandchildren Davaughn Mills, and Samirah Mills-Beckham, five great grands: King Mills, Ajani Mills, Kamari Mills, Phoenix Mills, and Samiya Beckham, three nephews James Early, Janal Early and Emiel Leathers, three nieces Tonia Simmons, Chandra Early and Jenean Leathers, his 1st wife and friend until the end Christine Early, his long time neighbors Melvin and Claudeenya and a host of other relatives and longtime friends
