Joyce Elizabeth Hemingway was born on November 25, 1957, in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Lawrence R. Nichols and Blanche L. Nichols. On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Joyce passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Wilmington, DE.
Joyce graduated from De La Warr High School in Wilmington, Delaware. She later attended Delaware Tech to pursue culinary. Joyce last worked at the Delaware Psychiatric Center where she was employed for 23 years.
Joyce loved spending time with her grandchildren, listening to music and dancing, she always dressed SHARP, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed playing cards, bingo, watching her favorite shows, playing her numbers, and she was always cooking or baking something. She was the life of the party and said whatever was on her mind.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Blanche Nichols; sisters, Maxine Miles, Daphine Scrivens, and Thea Howard.
Joyce leaves to cherish her loving memories, her daughters, Jameka J. Brock (Karl), and Janell Nichols, grandchildren, Jada Weir, Mark Weir, and Nylah Brock, Sister, Linda Fews, her partner, Tariq Harrigan, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
