Joseph H. Medley was born on March 26, 1970 in Camden, New Jersey to Vincent Hodge and Paula White ( nee Bates). At an early age Joe’s journey led him to Philadelphia, PA, a city that would become the backdrop to the life he built, the people he loved, and the Faith he carried openly.

Joe graduated from Murrell Dobbins High School in North Philly where he made his mark as a talented and determined athlete. He was a standout football player, taking the field as the starting Varsity Quarterback beginning in 10 th grade. Those who watched him play remember his strength, his focus, and the pride he carried in representing his team.

Joe was also a member of the National Honor Society, and after High School, he furthered his education at Widener University, continuing to push himself toward growth and opportunity.

Joe was known for his strong work ethic. He spent many years driving a cab, a job that suited his gift for conversation and connection. Never afraid of hard work, he later stepped out on Faith and started his own cab business. Over time, he continued his career as a Light Rail Operator for SEPTA, where he took pride in serving his community, and the people who depended on him each day,

Outside of work. Joseph truly enjoyed life. He loved all sports but he had a special love of football. He also loved cars, music, technology, and fashion- he liked to stay sharp and was known for keeping up with the latest trends. Joe especially enjoyed traveling and making memories with his beloved Wife Cheryl Medley. Whom he married on Feb 23, 2014.

Joe had a personality that filled a room. He was full of life and brought light wherever he went. He had a happy spirit, a kind heart, and a fun-loving nature. His smile and laughter were infectious, and he had a way of making people feel welcomed, encouraged, and cared for.

Above all else, Joe loved the Lord. He did not keep his faith quiet- he shared the Good News of Jesus with everyone he met, whether through conversation, encouragement, or prayer, Joe wanted people to know Jesus and be Saved.

After moving to Bear DE, he and Cheryl joined Alpha Worship Center where he served as a Deacon with dedication and humility. At the time of his passing, Joseph was also a Minister in Training, continuing to answer the call on his life to uplift and guide others.

Joe was proceeded in death by his 2 Sisters, Alice Bates and Vanessa Hodge, his Brother Paul Robert Medley 3rd , and his Father Vincent Hodge.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Cheryl Medley, His Mother Paula White (nee Bates), Step Father Paul Medley; His children Dyshine Hill, Lateef Medley ( Olivia), Amina Parks ( Khary), Ebony Medley, Alyssa Johnson, Adrianna Johnson, Char-Lee Johnson, Antoinette Austin ( Stephen), Taharah Medley, 15 grandchildren, his siblings Jonathan Medley, Emili Medley, Jason Mallory (Alanna), Michael Hodge, Sharon Hodge, Sarie Goodman ( Rashidi) and Nichira Woods-Griffin, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, and friends.

Joe will be remembered for his perseverance, his willingness to work hard, and his heart for God. His life touched many, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the Blessing of knowing him. Joe’s love, faith, laughter, and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew him
