James E Whitby Jr was born on September 11, 1948, in Philadelphia Pennsylvania to the late James and Flora Mae Whitby, passed away peacefully on Monday October 13, 2025, at his home in Kennett square Pennsylvania James was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System, later in his life he was employed by the Veterans Medical Center environmental services.

 James served in the army as a private and was a sharpshooter with rifle, marksman with M60 and received the national defense service medal. He was stationed in Fort Hood Texas.

 James loved shopping at thrift stores, watching NBA games and especially loved listening to his gospel music. 

James loved the Lord and served God with great affection and commitment. James was a man of faith who trusted God with every fiber of his being. His faith was very strong no matter what he faced he looked to God for grace, strength and mercy.

James loved his sisters and loved when they came to visit him. He would take them shopping and tell them "Get whatever you want” and then proceeded to treat them to lunch. He was so proud to introduce them to his friends at Red Clay Manor where he lived. James truly was his sister's keeper and protector.

James was loved by many people who took the time to get to know him. He will truly be missed by everyone. James had a special relationship with his sister-in-law Rose Whitby and her children before and after his brother Danney passed away. The bond that they shared was unshakable, loving and true.

James was preceded in death by his parents James and Flora Mae Whitby his two brothers Danny and Clarence Whitby. He leaves to cherish his love and memories, his sisters Floretta Gillette, Doris Whitby, Diane Whitby Byrd, Denise Whitby and Kristy Cromwell, one sister-in-law Rose Whitby, one brother-in-law Henry Byrd along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
