James Henry Fowlkes was born on January 28, 1935, in Keysville, Virginia to the late Louise and Rufus Fowlkes. He peacefully passed away in the comfort of his home on December 1, 2025, surrounded by family in Bear, Delaware.
James received his education in the Charlotte County public school system before relocating to West Chester, Pennsylvania, where he met and married the love of his life, the late Charlotte Fowlkes. He began his career at the West Chester Spring Factory and later joined Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, where he faithfully served as Senior Warehouse Manager for 35 years.
James found some of life’s greatest joys in simple, quiet moments—especially those spent fishing at sunrise when the world was still and peaceful. His easygoing spirit and warm presence made him a beloved member of the CBC Radio Club, where he shared music, stories, and laughter. Affectionately known as “Little Rock” and “Snoop,” he brought lighthearted humor and steadfast friendship everywhere he went. He was an avid sports fan who never missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved local teams—whether rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles winning a national championship, celebrating a 76ers win, or enjoying the excitement of a Phillies ball game.
In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, James was preceded in death by four brothers—Rufus Jr., Carlos, Raymond, and Charles; three sisters—Evelyn, Mary, and Barbara; and his grandson, James Flood.
James leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Edna Peterson; four sons, James Fowlkes Jr., Michael Fowlkes (Evelyn), Mark Fowlkes, and Glenn Fowlkes (Vashti); one brother, LeRoy Fowlkes (Patricia); and one sister, Shirley Hunter. He is also lovingly remembered by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless friends whose lives were touched by his kindness.
James legacy of love, dedication, and gentle strength will live on in all who knew and loved him.
