Geraldine Henry, 80 years of age, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025, at her home in Elkton, Maryland. She was surrounded by her loving family during her final moments; despite battling Alzheimer’s for the last five years of her journey, Geraldine maintained her kindness, grace, and compassion. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
Geraldine was born on January 4, 1945, in Elkton, Maryland to the late Wilmer and Margaret Ray.
Geraldine married Donald Leonidas Henry on February 24, 1973, in an intimate service at her home in Elkton, Maryland and from that union two children were born, Rochelle Denise Henry and Derek Purcell Henry.
Geraldine was a proud student at George Washington Carver School in Elkton, Maryland. Her commitment to family and community was evident early in her life, as she chose to work alongside her mother for many years, forging a close family bond that instilled the values of hard work, compassion, and dedication.
Geraldine was employed by some titans in the Thoroughbred Racing and Breeding industry, namely, Mary Odom and Allaire du Pont. She also worked for Union Hospital and Attorney Doris Scott. After deciding to change her work commitments, Geraldine joined W.L. Gore and Associates, where she was a Tape Wrap and Inspection Operator. She had the ability to multitask with perfection and excellence set her apart. Her dedication and commitment to her role at W.L. Gore spanned over 25 years before deciding to retire. However, one job in particular held a special spot in her heart, working for her son, Derek Henry, as a contractor for his Commercial Cleaning Service.
Geraldine was special in the home. Her love and enthusiasm for cooking were defining aspects of her life. Special holidays were particularly dear to her heart, especially Thanksgiving, when she prepared elaborate feasts featuring four or five course dinners with an array of side dishes. Her kitchen was a hub of love and laughter, where she crafted meals that not only delighted her family and friends but strangers as well. Her culinary skills were unmatched and she could have easily obtained a Michelin Star from any restaurant critic.
Geraldine was known for her impeccable sense of style. She loved to shop, Macy’s, J.C. Penny’s, and Strawbridge’s, they all were on her list. Her elegance and style were exciting and fun, but she loved to share her passion for clothes. She loved shopping and gifting clothes for her family.
Geraldine was a faithful servant of God serving faithfully and tirelessly for many years. Her journey started at an early age, being nurtured by the teachings of her parents about the love of God. She worshipped with the family at St. Paul Church, in Smyrna, Delaware, during her youth and later became a devoted member of Ebenezer A.M.E Church in Chesapeake City, Maryland. She served on the kitchen committee, doing what she loved, preparing meals for everyone to enjoy.
Geraldine lived a remarkable life that was marked by her unwavering love for her family and friends. She was a source of strength and joy, always ready to lend a helping hand. Her kindness and warm spirit will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Geraldine is survived by her loving husband, Donald Henry, her children, Rochelle Henry, Derek Henry (Gwendolyn), brother, Richard Ray (Deborah), grandchildren, Tiffani Henry, Brittnae Gassaway, Kelli Gassaway, great grand-children, Taylor Henry, Taylin Gassaway, Ava Gassaway, Virtue Gassaway, Rain Gassaway, Victory Gassaway, great great grandson; Dakota Henry niece, Brandi Ray, best friend/sister, Jean DePondicchello; and a host of devoted family and friends who will continue her legacy of love and passion for life.
