Gerald C. Hamilton was born on March 27, 1943 and departed this life on May 2, 2026.
He attended the public schools of Delaware, where he was a graduate of Wilmington High School, then became a member of the U.S. Army. Although he has held many jobs in his lifetime, he is most known for his service as a police officer for the city of Wilmington for over 20 years. Soon after, he would also serve as a lieutenant in the Delaware prison system for 10 plus years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Gerald C. Hamilton was also known for his musical contributions as a member of the Wilmington-based doo-wop group Teddy & the Continentals. The group was inducted into the Delaware Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2018, recognizing their lasting impact on regional music and entertainment.
Gerald loved the Lord. He was a faithful member of Simpson United Methodist Church in Newport. He enjoyed being a member of the men's and senior choirs. He also loved participating in services as “men’s day,” prayer breakfast and any other church fundraisers as selling dinners.
Gerald was affectionately known by many names such as dad, daddy, pop, pop-pop, Uncle Gerald, Ham or Gerry.
He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer & Catherine Hamilton, wife, Portia I. Hamilton, siblings Delaine B. Chandler. Drexel Hamilton, Larry Hamilton and Wendell C. Hamilton; daughter Charlotte Roundtree.
Gerald has left to cherish his memory his sister Beverly Matthews (Butch); children -Michelle Hunter, Sean Brunswick, Nicole Hamilton-Scott (Jay), Mia DeMarteleire (Evan), Kresston Hamilton (Raelyn), and Patrice Hamilton; gifted children Michelle Gray (Vance), Nicole Gosa (Darryl), Eddie Gosa and Shontay Boyd (Donn); his grandchildren - Ja’Net, Jaclyn, Rob, Joy, Ashley, Virginia, Nicole, Germaine, Anthony, Darion, Brandon, Kyle, Jordan, Logan, Anya, Kyair, Keashia, Zoey, Julay, Janai and Jadah; plus great-grandchildren along with many other family and friends.
