Ernestyne L. Martin

With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Ernestyne (Tyne) Martin, 77, of Wilmington, Delaware, on September 9, 2025.

Tyne was a devoted mother to her son, Shaun Gale; a loving sister to Robertine M. Cale; and a cherished aunt to her niece, Kristen Cale of Florida, and nephew, Bernard “Jerry” Cale of Texas. She held dear the friendship of Barbara Leatherberry and Claudette Carr, who were like family to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kathryn and Robert Martin Jr., and her brother, Robert Martin III and her beloved husband Preston Gale with whom she shared 30 years of marriage.

In accordance with Ernestine's wishes, there will be no public viewing or memorial service. The family requests that loved ones remember her as she was in happier and healthier times.

Ernestyne dedicated over 35 years of service to the State of Delaware, working for the Superior Court. She earned a bachelor's degree from Bennett College and a master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. In her role, she interviewed convicted individuals, researched the law, and wrote legal briefs for sentencing judges.

An avid reader and lifelong learner, Ernestyne also enjoyed traveling and exploring new places. She was especially fond of riding alongside her twin- sister, Robertine, on their many adventures.

Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for her family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
