Life Story
Earldine Roundtree was born on October 15, 1946, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Rachel and Hugh Jones. On September 19, 2025, at 6 pm she departed this world peacefully at Christiana Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, who will miss her dearly. Earldine moved to Delaware with her parents and her siblings as a child, where she attended several public schools. She later obtained her CNA license at Del Tech community College in Wilmington, DE. She worked at Wilmington General Hospital (now Wilmington Hospital). After many years in the nursing field, she made a career change and began working at Dupont Chemical plant in Glasgow, DE as a chemical plant operator for 22 years before retiring only to start a new career at Happy Harry’s which later transitioned to Walgreens, where she worked as a cashier for over 10 years.
Earldine enjoyed cooking big holiday meals for her family, dressing from head to toe, watching shows like Family Feud, Flip Side, and Tyler Perry Sistas, or browsing Facebook. Prior to becoming ill she was an active member of “The Sepias” social club. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially going out to breakfast with her daughter Areatha “DeeDee” Jones and son in love Thomas “Tommy”. She would often call her granddaughter Tosha to go but she would say and you better make sure you bring my “Sunshine” (Maliyah) as she like to call her.
Earldine was preceded in death by her parents Rachel and Hugh Jones; her son, Charles E. Jones; her great grandson, Ka’Sai Naeem Jones; and her sister, Patricia Ann Harris. Earldine leaves to cherish her memory her children: William Kelvin Jones (Jacqueline) of New Jersey, Michelle Jones (Willie) of Delaware, and Areatha Jones (Thomas) of Delaware. She is also survived by one sister, Lois Furrow of Delaware; two brothers, Charles Jones (Mary) of North Carolina and Lewis Jones (Mary) of Michigan; and a devoted ex-husband Carlton Roundtree.
Earldine is lovingly remembered by her ten grandchildren: Khaleem Jones, Khajuan Jones, LaTosha Jones, Rashan Griffin, Darion Jones, Christine Gibbs, Charlyeshia Jones, Jahniya Jones, Ahmondrion Jones, and Kymoria Jones; thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
