Deloris L. Fields

Deloris Louise Fields was born on April 8, 1939, in Wrightsville, Georgia, to the late Levi Stephens and Hattie Dudley Clark. On July 6, 2026, she peacefully answered the Master’s call and entered eternal rest.

Affectionately known as “Big Dee” and “Mrs. Dee,” Deloris was educated in the Wrightsville School System. As a young woman, she moved to New York before settling in Wilmington, Delaware, where she continued her education at Howard High School and built a life rooted in faith, hard work, and family.

In 1973, Deloris was united in holy matrimony with the late James Fields. She was the proud and devoted mother of her beloved son, DeShawn (Mackey) Fields, who remained the joy of her life.

Deloris began her career at Wilmington General Hospital before dedicating many years of service to the City of Wilmington in the Public Safety and Civilian Police Departments. She was known for her strong work ethic and faithful service until retirement.

A devoted member of Friendship Baptist Church, Deloris served faithfully on the Nursing Board, Usher Board, and Mother’s Board. Her life reflected her deep faith, compassion, and commitment to serving others.

Outside of work and church, Deloris enjoyed softball, bowling, basketball, and attending motorcycle events and car drag races. She was also a loyal Philadelphia Eagles fan.

If you traveled down 26th and Madison, you could often find Deloris on her porch, tending to her flowers or greeting neighbors with a warm smile and kind words. She never met a stranger and was known for her wisdom, honesty, and a mean pot of greens that kept family and friends coming back for more. She loved bringing people together and always seemed to know what was happening in the neighborhood, thanks to her beloved CB radio.

Deloris was preceded in death by her parents, Levi Stephens and Hattie Dudley Clark; her husband, James Fields; one brother, Lester Outlaw; and three sisters, Eva Mae, Ruby Brown, and Elizabeth Kellam.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted son, DeShawn (Mackey) Fields (Azia); four grandchildren, DeVon Fields, Zykera Fields, ZaNasia Fields, and Tobias Boston; one great-granddaughter Jahaira Fields; one sister, Jannie Mae Clark of Jacksonville, Florida; a devoted nephew, Joseph Williams (Paulette); a devoted niece, KaShauna Woodson (George); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, dear friends, and neighbors.

Deloris’ life was a beautiful reflection of faith, strength, generosity, and love. Whether you knew her as Big Dee, Mrs. Dee, Mom, Mom Mom, Aunt, Neighbor, or Friend, you knew someone who loved deeply, spoke honestly, and never let anyone leave her home hungry. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
