Cornelia Ann Maddrey

July 4, 1964 — April 24, 2025

Cornelia Ann Maddrey 60, of Wilmington DE, was born July 4, 1964 to Cornelia Maddrey and the late John William Simmons. She departed this life on April 24, 2025 at home surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

"Ann" as she was affectionately known received her early education in Colonial School District before going on to attend Howard High School of Technology where she studied Cosmetology and braiding hair was her thing. Ann worked as a bartender for many years at Butch’s Nightclub and Leroy’s Bar & Grill, and she also worked for many years at Popeye’s. Ann was a jack of many trades as she also knew how to repair cars, and she loved doing a tune up or oil change. Ann also loved doing interior decorating and cooking from scratch, something she inherited from her mother.

Ann loved and adopted a style of dress at a very young age while always borrowing her sister Linda’s clothes without asking and making every outfit a hit, and when she stepped out, she always stepped out “Dressed to Impress”. Ann loved to throw that "ish" on, and many copied her style. Ann loved to dress her kids up as well, and many times in her earlier years you would see her walking and she would have her sidekick (Kita) walking right on the side of her with her umbrella. Ann loved to sing and dance, and she loved music (R & B, Jazz and Oldies but Goodies) and she just recently adopted a love for rap music now that she has teenage grandsons and her favorite singer was Anita Baker.

Ann loved her family, and she was a loving sister. She shared so many memories that went back to her childhood. Ann was quiet but wild and she loved to run and play, and Ann loveeeed to wear powder. Ann was a soft-spoken soul and very respectful and always lending a listening ear. Ann loved to hang out with Karen and Brenda and would often get in trouble with Brenda, while Karen was the one that did the right thing. Ann also loved her cousin Pete, as he was the brother that she never had and she spoiled him too.

Ann accepted the lord into her life as her personal Savior in her early years and was a member of Outreach Baptist Church when the late Reverend Ford was the presiding pastor, and Ann loved the lord. Ann loved being a loving mother and grandmother. "Mommy Ann" as her grandchildren called her, loved and adored her children but did not play about her grandbabies. Mommy Ann was Rea’Quan’s first friend and personal diary. She was Chyna’s sidekick and listening ear. Mommy Ann loved taking Na’Meer on car rides while bumping and nodding her head to “Spin the Block”. Denim aka her Boop-Boop loved sitting and talking with Mommy Ann as they planned out his future on how he would conquer the world. Chase loved sitting around and cracking jokes with Mommy Ann, while Miing Diamond loved being her personal entertainment, and in turn she was Miing’s personal hype man. And let’s not forget about Mommy Ann’s Xylaa aka Nana who was her favorite white girl who loved to sit with Ann and sing and dance.

Ann was preceded in death by her father John William Simmons, sister Cynthia Maddrey, her favorite aunt Leslie Maddrey and a host of aunts and uncles.

She leaves to cherish her life and memories to her mother Cornelia Maddrey, her children Zekita, Denee, Qy”Mere and Cy-erra Maddrey. Her loving sisters Linda Maddrey-Cook, Faye Maddrey, Karen Torres (Michael), Donna Maddrey-Owens (Marvin). Her grandchildren Rea’Quan and Chyna White, Na’Meer Moore, Denim Jackson, Chase Logan, Miing Diamond Jackson and Xylaa Lopex. She also leaves to cherish her uncle Walter Maddrey (Louise), a very special and devoted friend Rudolph Reams aka Gussie, her best friend of many years Evette Cooper, her godson Markhi Dollard, and a host of nieces, nephew's cousins and friends.
