Charles Larry Taylor, affectionately known as “Chopper,” was born on November 25, 1955, to Charles Larry Ross and Christine A. Taylor at the Old Wilmington General Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. He departed this life suddenly on July 22, 2025, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware.
Chopper received his early education at Stubbs Elementary School and proudly graduated from P.S. Dupont High School, Class of 1974. A gifted athlete, he played both Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball during his high school years. Beyond basketball, Chopper had a deep love for tennis, racquetball, and especially golf often teeing off with friends who shared his passion for the game. His commitment to sports extended to the community, as he devoted time to teaching tennis to inner city youth through programs in Wilmington.
Chopper was a dedicated worker, employed over the years by several respected industrial companies. His work history includes roles at The Pepsi-Cola Company (merchant display setup), Dupont Fire Company, Norcross Rustcraft Card Greeting Company in West Chester, PA (Lead Forklift Driver), and Dupont Experimental Company in the Safety Department. He also spent many years working at Milton’s Liquor Store, where Mr. Milton and his family embraced Chopper as one of their own.
Chopper was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ross, and his maternal grandparents, Rayfield L. and Annie E. Taylor.
He leaves to cherish his memory: one son: Corey Jenkins; father: Charles Ross; mother: Christine A. Taylor; brother: Cyril Taylor; sister: Cherylrel Taylor; Godson: Montrel Hicks; two uncles: William Taylor (Beatrice) and Oliver Taylor (Wanda, recently deceased); three aunts: Mary Fields, Dorothy Taylor Thompson, and Sarah Taylor Williams; extended family: Mr. Milton, Curtis Milton & family; brotherly friends: Jerome Saunders, Stevie Cole and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and cherished friends.
