Charles A. Hill, Jr., age 55, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Southgate in Carneys Point, New Jersey. He was born on November 14, 1969, in Richmond, Virginia, to Marie Louise Quarles and Charles A. Hill, Sr.
Charles was educated in the Wilmington Public Schools. He took pride in his appearance, enjoyed dressing sharply, wearing jewelry, and always smelled good. He began his career as a dishwasher and through hard work and determination, he was elevated to the position of chef. He often said it was nothing but God’s doing, as he never attended culinary school. Charles was an outstanding cook. Years later, he used those same cooking skills to woo his soon-to-be wife, proving early on that the way he showed love was through a well-seasoned meal. On December 28, 2013, Charles married Terri Taylor, and she was proud to become Mrs. Terri Hill. Charles enjoyed cooking with his wife and often boasted that he could fry chicken better than her.
On September 20, 2014, Charles received his Minister’s License from the Church of God in Christ, Inc. He loved studying and learning God's Word, and he preached under the anointing of God. His very scripture was Psalm 91. Charles was proud to share his testimony of how God healed and delivered him and was affectionately nicknamed “Lightning” by Pastor Calvin Brown.
Charles continued in his career as a chef working in several nursing homes, including Forwood Manor Assisted Living, The Summit of Hockessin, Echo Lake Senior Living, and Ingleside Nursing Home. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards and recognition for his dedication and excellence. These included Certificates of Appreciation in 2014, 2017, and 2019; Employee of the Month for outstanding performance, service, and dedication in 2014; the All-Star Food Service Award in May 2017 for excellence and selfless commitment to long-term care; the State of Delaware Office of the Governor Award in 2017; and Associate of the Month at Echo Lake in January 2024.
Outside of cooking, one of Charles’ greatest pleasures was building and racing his monster trucks and flying his drones. He was naturally gifted, able to fix anything and he wouldn’t give up until the job was done. When he wasn’t in the kitchen or tinkering with his trucks, one could find Charles on his many road trips. He deeply loved his family and his in-laws and enjoyed taking memorable trips with his wife. He held a special place in his heart for his Virginia family and often shared fond memories of growing up with his aunts and uncles, who spoiled him dearly. He especially looked forward to his brother Otis' barbecues, as spending time with family brought him true joy. Charles cherished the conversations he had with his sons and never missed an opportunity to share words of encouragement. He loved spending time with his “little best friend” Katrell and looked forward to his visits. Although Charles was a quiet man, he loved to laugh and especially enjoyed teasing his wife about her beloved Dallas Cowboys, since he was a proud Philadelphia Eagles fan. Game time on Sundays was always full of fun rivalry.
In his final days, Charles made peace with God, his family, and friends. He shared his final words with his wife on September 27th, “I am happy now. I no longer have fear, I am in the presence of God.” In final words to the hospice chaplain were, “Tell my wife I love her.” As Charles left his earthly body, his wife and two of her cousins were right by his side.
Charles is survived by his devoted wife, Terri; his parents, Marylou and Charles Sr.; five sons: Aaron Parker, Jordan Parker, Keyon Hill, Devonte’ Lipscomb, and Marquis Hampton; 12 grandchildren; one adopted grandson; and two stepsons, Terrell and Terron Taylor.
