Betty M. Davis

November 10, 1952 — September 20, 2025

Betty Marie Davis, daughter of the late John L. Davis and Flossie Mae (Smith) Davis was born on November 10, 1952, in Wilmington, Delaware. She peacefully transitioned on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

Betty received her early education in the Wilmington public schools and graduated from Pierre S. duPont High School in 1971. During her school years, she found joy in singing, basketball, and volleyball. She later dedicated her career to working for the Division of Social Services and the DuPont Company, where she served faithfully for 25 years before retiring in 2002.

At an early age, Betty joined Union Baptist Church in Wilmington, Delaware. She served faithfully as a choir member, usher, and in many church ministries. She also shared her gift of song as a member of the Mary Dee Singers.

Above all, family was Betty’s pride and joy. She was a devoted mother to Tamika Davis-Cannon and the late Wayne Alfonso Reaves III. She was a proud grandmother to Sabryn Nykol Davis-Cannon and Darryl Deandre Cannon Jr., and she delighted in their accomplishments with immense joy and pride.

Betty enjoyed collecting photographs, working crossword puzzles, and playing the Delaware lottery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Davis; her son, Wayne A. Reaves III; and her siblings, Eualia Corvey Burton and Eddie L. Davis Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Tamika Davis-Cannon (Darryl Cannon Sr.); her grandchildren, Sabryn N. Davis-Cannon and Darryl D. Cannon Jr.; her sister, Dorothy A. Harris (Darryl Harris); along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many beloved friends.

Betty’s love, strength, and warmth will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
