Barbara J. Fryar

Barbara J. Fryar, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, family member, and cherished friend, passed away on August 11, 2026. Born on June 4, 1945, in Delaware, Barbara was the daughter of the late Harlan Guy and Bernice J. Guy. Throughout her life, she touched the hearts of countless people and will be lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Barbara was educated in Delaware and proudly graduated from P.S. du Pont High School. She continued her education at Goldey Beacom College, where she pursued a degree in accounting and graduated with honors. Her dedication to her education reflected the intelligence, determination, and strong work ethic that she carried throughout her life.

Following her education, Barbara was employed by The News Journal Company, where she enjoyed an extensive and dedicated career. Over the years, she became a valued member of the organization and remained committed to her work until her retirement. Her long career reflected her professionalism, dependability, and strong sense of responsibility.

Barbara was the proud and loving mother of her daughter, Stacie Guy Lovett, (Frederick Lovett). She adored her grandson, Derrick Guy, and took great joy in being a great-grandmother to Eajae Barksdale, Zaakirah Guy, Zira Guy, and Prince Crenshaw. She leaves behind a brother, Bernard Guy, nieces and nephew and a loving circle of extended family members and dear friends who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts.

Anyone who knew Barbara knew that she loved to dance. Light on her feet and full of energy. Dancing brought her much happiness and allowed her joyful spirit to shine. She especially enjoyed spending time with her line dance family (Pure Passion) attending classes, gatherings, and line dance events. Whether learning a new step or simply enjoying the music and fellowship of those around her, Barbara found great pleasure on the dance floor.

Barbara also had an adventurous spirit and a true love for traveling and cruising. Whenever the opportunity arose, she was ready to experience somewhere new, enjoy a cruise, or embark upon another journey. Among her many travel experiences were two cross-country train trips across the United States, visiting major cities and destinations from the East Coast to the West Coast. She treasured the opportunity to see new places, create lasting memories, and experience the beauty and diversity of the country.

Barbara will be remembered most for the beautiful spirit she carried throughout her life. She was a warm spirited, loving, compassionate, and generous woman who was always willing to lend a helping hand to someone in need. To many, Barbara was more than a relative or friend. She was a mother figure, offering encouragement, guidance, comfort, and unconditional love. She valued her relationships deeply and was a devoted, loyal, and close friend who could always be counted on. Her kindness, laughter, strength, and caring nature left an everlasting impression upon everyone whose life she touched.

Although her physical presence will be deeply missed, Barbara's legacy of love, friendship, joy, and compassion will continue to live on through her daughter, grandson, great-grandchildren, brother, nieces, nephew, extended family, and many cherished friends. The love she gave so freely and the memories she created will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
