Barbara J. Butler

February 11, 1947 — July 5, 2025

On Saturday July 5, 2025 at Christiana Care Hospital, Barbara Jean Sulton-Butler silently left to be at rest with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Although doctors, family, and even herself did everything they could to prolong her life, it was GOD’s will to call her to her eternal heavenly home.

Barbara Jean was born on February 11,1947 to the late Luke and Azzie Lee Sulton in Columbia, South Carolina. Barbara Jean received her education in South Carolina. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a member of Union Baptist Church in South Carolina, until she moved to Delaware to become a long-life member at Mt Calvary Baptist Church.

Affectionately called “Ms. B or Momma B” by her friends and the children she helped raised. Barbara, instilled the values and morals the lord instilled in her, including the importance of family and love. These values were passed on to her two children; Kevin D Sulton and Jamese Bulter.

Barbara Jean major accomplishment was the life of her two children. She gave birth to Kevin D Sulton on November 22, 1971 and Jamese Butler on April 5th ,1976. Everything she did in life was for her two children becoming the foundation, pillar, and backbone on who they are today. Even if over the years her skills diminished her motherly instincts would lead first and every decision made was for her two children.

Barbara Jean married the late James T Butler Jr, which helped bring Jamese to life. Barbara Jean enjoyed going to flea markets, gardening, socializing with her friends and most importantly going to church on Sundays. Barbara Jean would sing those gospel songs like no one else.

Barbara was preceded in death by Luke Sulton (Father), Azzie Lee Sulton (Mother), Oscar Rhinehart (Grandfather), Mattie “Parnell” Rhinehart (Grandmother), Johnnie Bartley (Cousin), Willie Mae Scott (Best Friend), Barbara Berry (Best Friend)

Barbara Jean is survived by Kevin D Sulton (Son), Jamese Butler (Daughter), Patricia Ann Scott (Sister) Frank Felder (Cousin), Marion “PeeWee” Brown (Cousin), Elizabeth “Nunnie” Gilmore (Life Long Best Friend) and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
