Amir Scott

Today, we gather to honor and celebrate the life of Amir Scott, a truly genuine soul who touched so many hearts during his time with us.

Amir was born on April 21, 1985 in Newark, DE to Patricia Scott and from the beginning, he was a light in the lives of those who knew him. He was kind, thoughtful, and full of love — the kind of person who didn't just say he cared, he showed it every day in the little things he did for the people and animals he loved.

Amir graduated from high school in 2003, a proud moment for him and his family. Soon after, he began working at the University of Delaware, where he built strong relationships and developed a reputation for his reliability and dedication. Later, he joined the staff at Country House in Greenville — a job he truly cherished. And in all his years there, he never missed a single day of work. That was just who he was — committed, dependable, and proud to show up for the people who counted on him.

Amir was also an active and proud member of the Special Olympics, where he found joy, friendship, and a sense of belonging. He especially loved swimming — the water was his happy place. Whether he was training or competing, he brought the same heart and dedication to the pool that he brought to every part of his life.

But Amir wasn’t just a hard worker. If you knew Amir, you knew he had a big heart - especially when it came to dogs. They brought him so much joy, and he had a natural way of connecting with them. His compassion and patience made him their favorite human, and he always believed that dogs could teach us a lot about loyalty and unconditional love.

Amir had a dream — he wanted to serve and protect his community as a police officer. He admired the strength, the purpose, and the integrity behind the badge. Though he didn't get the chance to wear the uniform, he lived with that same sense of duty and honor in how he treated others. He stood up for what was right, and he was always there when you needed him.

Though Amir didn't have children of his own, he was deeply devoted to his family - especially his mother, whom he cherished above all. Their bond was unbreakable, full of love, laughter, and mutual respect. His mother was his rock, his safe place, and he was hers.

Amir proceeds in death his Grandmother Johnnie Mae McGhee, his grandfather Joe H. Scott and his Uncle, Dennis McGhee.

He also leaves behind a host of loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom he adored. Family was everything to Amir and he made sure everyone felt important and valued. He never let a visit or phone call end without saying "I love you.”

Amir was the kind of person who made the world a better place just by being in it. He was real - no pretense, no pretending. Just love, loyalty, and the kind of quiet strength that makes a lasting impact. Though our hearts are heavy, we will hold on to the memories, the laughter, and the love he gave so freely.

Rest easy, Amir. You were truly one of a kind. You will always be loved, always remembered, and forever missed.
