Wakefield Joseph Johnson

Wakefield Joseph Johnson was born on August 22, 1937 in Rock Hall, Maryland to Bernice Scott Johnson and the late Joseph Johnson. He departed this life on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the age of 70. Wakefield was educated in the Kent County Public System of Maryland and graduated from Garnet High School in 1955. Wakefield played baseball and basketball and was the star player of the basketball team. Wakefield was employed by local 199 as a construction laborer and retired in 1999 with over 40 years of service. Wakefield was a man with a BIG HEART who loved, cared for, and honored his mother. He proved everyday that to have a mend, you must show yourself to be friendly. Because he showed himself to be friendly, he had friends in every state and county that he visited. Giving was not an option for him, it was a joy of his life to freely bless others. He enjoyed playing cards and watching football. His favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. Wakefield was preceded in death by his sister Shirley E. Shuman, and brothers Raymond (Bus) Johnson, Earl A. Johnson and granddaughter Shirell L. Duckery. He leaves to cherish his momories his mother Bernice S. Johnson of Wilmington, DE; three sons E. Michael Duckery of Millington, Maryland, Glenn L. Johnson of Rockhall Maryland and Dondi L. Johnson of Dover, Delaware; one daughter-in-law, Pastor Phyllis Duckery; three stepchildren, Bronte Brown, Stephanie Brown and James Brown, Jr; two grandchildren, Minister CaSandra L. Wilson (Jeffrey) of Camden, Delaware and Yvonne E. Duckery of Marydel Maryland; three great grandchildren, Jerren, Zion, and Cayden Wilson of Camden, Delaware; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends Lee Hopkins and Ms. Ethel and a galaxy of friends.
