Vivian I. Gregory

Vivian Irene Gregory was born December 29, 1939. Vivian was fondly and affectionately known as Aunt Vivian," "Grandma," and "Ms. G." Her parents, Sadie Abel and Joseph Martin, predeceased her. Vivian went home to be with the Lord on May 25 , 2023 while in Christiana Hospice in Wilmington , Delaware. Vivian's last earthly days were filled with long visits and conversations with Her friends and her two sons, Vincent Abel and Joseph Gregory.

Vivian met the love of her life, Oscar M. Gregory, while living in Harlem, New York. They dated and soon thereafter married. Her second son, Joseph Gregory, was born. The family moved to Wilmington, and Vincent Abel, her first son, joined the family later .

Vivian was educated in the New York City School System. She attended PS 136 Girls Junior High School and Wadleigh High School, both in Harlem . After graduating , she started her employment.  Vivian was a strong woman with a work ethic second to no one. At age 16 she worked in the Manhattan Garment District, as was the practice in those days for young ladies looking for work. Years later she worked in the Elkton Munitions plant, Wilmington Department of Parks and Recreation and the Wilmington Housing Authority. She also managed a gas station in Southbridge.

A Godly woman, Vivian was a faithful servant of Scott AME Church in Wilmington for years. A Compassionate, true servant and giver, she was a long-time member of the Salem County Marine Corp Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Caesar Rodney Unit #3 Disabled Veterans Auxiliary where she served as the Treasurer and Chaplain for many years.

Vivian's life was filled with joy. She enjoyed family and friends. She loved shopping trips, especially to the Farmers Market. Crocheting was a love she enjoyed, and she created many beautiful gifts.

She was predeceased by Oscar M. Gregory and her brother Erman James Able (sister-in-law Richelean).

Vivian leaves to cherish her memories and kindness her two sons Vincent (partner Beverly R. Witcher) and Joseph (Patricia), grandchildren Leatrice I. Thomas ,Tiffany and Vincent Jr.,  James Wirln and Joekisha Winn, along with many other cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
