Susie B. Collins

December 23, 1930 — December 16, 2022

Susie Bernice Goodman Collins was born on December 23, 1930, in Suffolk, Virginia. She was

the daughter of the late Alexandra (Alex) & Mattie Goodman & Step-daughter of Beatrice (Bea)

Goodman. She transitioned from this life to be with her Lord, peacefully, at home on December

16, 202, surrounded by her family.


Susie received her early education in Suffolk, VA. She later moved to Delaware, where she

spent much of her life. In the latest part of her life’s journey, she moved to Arizona to live with

her children.


Susie met and was joined together in holy matrimony on December 24, 1960, to the late Rev.

Ivan N. Collins, Jr.


Susie and Rev. Ivan N. Collins, Jr. together, operated their own fuel oil business for many years.

The business, Collins Fuel & Heating, was known for “caring and sharing” at all times. Their

business slogan, “Our Business Makes Warm Friends,” was exemplary of the many friends they

garnished over the years as well as the many warm homes they lovingly serviced. Susie worked,

also, for a number of years as a caregiver for children and as a domestic engineer.


Susie was a former Member & First Lady of Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Church, serving

with & under the Pastoral Leadership of the late Rev. Ivan N. Collins, Jr. for many years. She

later became a member, serving at New Pentecostal United Holy Church. Susie’s current

membership resided at the New Life United Holy Church; serving under the Pastoral Leadership

of her nephew, Elder Robert Goodman. She was a “dedicated” servant of the Lord.


Susie, also known as “Miss Susie and Mom Susie,” was a learned songstress and an excellent

seamstress. She loved to sing gospel music and sang in a number of choirs and singing groups in

her lifetime which included: the Morgan Chorus, Rock of Ages Chorus, and the Dickerson

Chorus, to name a few. She was the lead organizer of the original Rock of Ages Chorus. As a

seamstress, Susie was well-known as a maker of church choir and clergy robes.


Susie was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, Step-Mother; her Husband, Reverend Ivan

N. Collins, Jr.; her Siblings, Dorothy Goodman, Mildred Holly, Margaret Smith, &; William

Goodman.


Susie leaves to cherish her memories, her Daughter, Mattie &Mae; Wilson; Son, Clinton Collins

of AZ ; Stepdaughter – Barbara Gale; Devoted Stepdaughter, Delcene "Cene" Mitchell (Alrick)

of DE; Stepsons – Larry & Gregory Collins of DE; Son-in-law, Irvin "Pick" Wilson of AZ;

Daughter-in law, Debbie Collins of AZ; A Devoted Nephew, Elder Robert Goodman (Elder

Jean) of DE; Sisters-in-law, Edna Lunsford (Joe) of IN, Margaret Timmons, Mary Mims, Rosie

Wilson of TN, Martha Goodman of NY; Brother-in-law, Joseph Collins (Sherri) of PA; 12

Grandchildren, 31 Great-Grandchildren, 4 Great-Great Grandchildren; Devoted Grands –

Georgie Collins (Isis) of DE, Jordan Collins, Aarin Collins of AZ; a host of Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins; Special Extended Family, Rev. Rose Johnson-James and Edith Johnson of DE, along

with other relatives and friends.
