Shirley A. Jackson

July 19, 1935 — May 1, 2020

Shirley Ann Jackson, the youngest of four daughters of Wilbur and Nannie Miles Jackson, was born on July 19, 1935 in the small town of Crewe, Virginia. She completed her elementary and high school education and later she went to live with an aunt in New Jersey. It was there she decided to attend nursing school (Essex County Nursing School) and completed her training as a licensed practical nurse.

She later moved to Wilmington, Delaware and worked her craft at the Medical Center of Delaware for 20 year before retiring. Her love of nursing brought her to the Methodist Country House where she worked for over 25 years.

Shirley was a fun-loving individual. She was an avid gardener and spent hours of her time off working in her yard. She was always the "go-to" person for her family. She kept in touch with everyone and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She loved her family and would go the extra mile for anyone and everyone. She was a no-nonsense kind of person. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, cryptograms and writing poetry and most of all, the Bible. She loved God and spent the last few years worshipping at Mt. Joy United Methodist Church.

Shirley was the mother of 2 children - Michael and Marian Jackson Blount (Maurice), who preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn son Michael, 2 two grandsons, St. Clair and Michael, several great-grandchildren; two sisters (Florance Agnew and Christine Oliver) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Her beloved sister, Beatrice preceded her in death. Although Shirley had no brothers, her cousins Andrew, Robert, Kenneth (deceased), Maynard and Edward were as close as brothers could have been. She had many friends and enjoyed daily chats from her special friends Vicki and Sandy and her long-time neighbors - Gloria, Chester, Pat, Mike and Billy.

On May 1, 2020, after a short hospital stay, she joined her beloved sister Beatrice and daughter. She now is one of the family angels who will watch over us. Rest in peace, Ms. Shirley, you will never be forgotten! The Family gratefully acknowledges all prayers and kindnesses extended to Shirley during her illness and pray that God blesses you always! - The Family
