Phenize Scott Odom

October 25, 1925 — November 29, 2006

Phenize Scott Odom was the son of the late Mr. James Odom and Mrs. Lessie Williams Odom. He was born in Bamberg County, South Carolina on October 26, 1925. On November 29, 2006, at his home in the Windsor Village Apartments in Wilmington Delaware, God called him from labor to reward. He received his early education at George Washington Carver Elementary School in Bamberg, South Carolina. He later attended Howard High School in Orangeburg, South Carolina. In South Carolina he joined Ebenezer Methodist Church and received Christ as his Savior at an early age. He served in the United States Anny where he received a Korean Service Medal W /2 B S, and was a former member of Star in the East Lodge # 1 of Free and Accepted Masons. After his honorable discharge from the service, he lived in Savannah, Georgia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Brooklyn, New York with his brothers. He later moved to Wilmington, Delaware. In Wilmington, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mrs. Georgia Beatrice Odom for 36 years and became stepfather to Virgil Robertson & Waldo Robertson. He later joined Mt. Joy United Methodist Church. At Mt. Joy, he served as former chairman of the Trustee Board, Men's Day Chairman, and sang in the Brotherhood Choir. He retired as a Supervisor/Gang Leader from the International Longshoreman of Wilmington Delaware. Phenize enjoyed wearing caps, being a father, uncle, entertaining, fishing, playing cards, traveling, and cooking. He was a great believer in family reunions and attended each Odom, Brabham and Orr family reunions in the 1990's until he became incapacitated. He leaves to cherish his memory; two sons, Virgil & Waldo Robertson and their families, one sister Naomi O. Johnson of Allendale, SC; two stepsisters, Louise Able of Bamberg, SC, Elizabeth Hayward of Brooklyn, NY, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
