Nathaniel C. "Nate" Gale

April 29, 1949 — December 5, 2020

Nathaniel "Nate" Gale was born on April 29,1949 in Philadelphia PA to Israel Gale, Jr. and Ruth Gale. He departed this life on December 6, 2020 at Christiana Health Care System in Wilmington DE.

Nate received his early childhood education from Our Lady of Victory Catholic School. He graduated from West Philadelphia High School. After graduating high school Nate furthered his education at Shaw University of North Carolina where he became a member of Groove Phi Groove SFI. Nate later attended Temple University of Pennsylvania receiving a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. Upon graduation from college, Nate had numerous jobs which included serving as a Committeeman and Judge of Elections in the third ward/ 7th division of Philadelphia. Nate also worked at the Mayors office in Philadelphia and in youth services. Most recently he was employed at the School District of Philadelphia as a special education classroom assistant.

Nate was committed to learning and educating about cultural diversity and was passionate about African American History and politics. He loved jazz and reggae music and has the old vinyl records to prove it. Everyday Nate would read the Daily News or The Philadelphia Inquirer to keep up with current events and sports. One of his main passions was sports, especially basketball. For over 40 years, Nate dedicated his time to supporting youth sports by refereeing basketball, volleyball, and track & field, serving as an official at the Penn Relays.

Nate, along with his wife Barbara, were avid travelers enjoying destinations such as Florida, Jamaica, Las Vegas, and Atlantic City. Nate attended Groove Phi Groove Black and White Events in the state and abroad and made attending West Philadelphia High School reunions and picnics a priority as he loved to connect with old friends.

Nate was proceeded in death by Israel Gale Jr. (father), Ruth Gale (mother), Ester Jackson (aunt), Elizabeth Jackson (aunt), and Ernest C.LS Evans (grandchild).

Nate is survived by loving wife Barbra Gale, step children Ernest Evans, Lynn-Holly Oates (Kenny), grandchildren Nashir Evans, Nasir Stevenson, Kailyn Oates, Lauryn Oates, Saadir Evans, Jaidyn Oates, Saamiyah Evans, Devyn Oates, and a host of relatives and many many friends.
