Mother Barbara Wright Scurry

December 16, 1944 — November 28, 2020

Mother Barbara Wright Scurry, daughter of the late Deacon Will & Lola G. Wright, was born on December 16, 1944.

Barbara received her education in the public school systems of New Castle & Wilmington Delaware, graduating from Howard High School in 1964.

In 1964, Barbara was united in matrimony to Mr. Jimmie Walker. From this union, three children were born, Tanya, James, & Tashauna Walker.

In 1969, Barbara was employed by the Christiana Care Health System as an aid. Barbara then furthered her education in 1972, to become a nursing technician, a position she held until retiring in 2004.

Barbara also had an exceptional culinary gift, which she used regularly in her employment as a cook for the New Castle Senior Center; from 1981 retiring in 2001. Mother Scurry joined the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Levi Lockamy in 1969. You could always find her serving in any capacity, wherever she was needed.

In April of 1989, she was united in matrimony to the late Deacon Leonard T Scurry.

In his infinite wisdom, God summoned Barbara to his eternal presence on Saturday, November 28, 2020.

Barbara was preceded in death by her son James Walker, her brother Deacon Roosevelt Wright, her sister Deborah McNeil, and her loving husband Deacon Leonard T. Scurry.

Mother Scurry will be forever cherished by her loving daughters Tanya Brown & Tashauna Walker, 11 grandchildren Anthony Walker, Tasha Melvin, Joshua Walker, Walter Brown II, Lionel Brown, Elijah Harris, Jasmine Brown, Selassiei Harris, Jahfari Harris, Savion Harris and Semaj Harris. 11 great grandchildren. Son-in-law Pastor W.C.Brown, Godson Rev. Issac Jackson, sisters Edna Moore (William) & Patricia Pierce (Bob) and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
