Michelle Renee Claudette Hicks

January 5, 1963 — February 1, 2024

Michelle Renee Claudett Hicks was born on January 5, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York to Elijah Campbell, Jr. and Annabell Campbell. She peacefully transitioned to her eternal rest on February 1, 2024, at Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, Delaware.

Michelle earned the nick name “chicken” from her late grandparents Elijah Campbell, Sr. and Claudia Campbell.

She received her education from Howard Vocational Care Center and went on to graduate from William Penn High School. She later received her certificate from Del-Tech in ICD-19 coding, and a certificate for Medical Assistant. After school she worked at Burger King, the Laundry Basket, and a domestic worker for Now President Joseph Biden. She also worked as a CNA at Faulk Manor, and as a Medical Assistant at Family Foundation School. Later, she went and married her high school sweetheart (ex-spouse) Darrell Hicks, Sr. while living in Germany for the United States Army.

Michelle (Chicken) attended First Baptist Church, and later started attending Bethel Pentecostal Church. She enjoyed sports, traveling, dancing, music, babysitting, cooking, laughing with family and friends, remembering the days growing up with her family BBQ’s, birthdays, and holidays giving to others. Her favorite past times were watching movies, playing cards with our family, collecting barbie dolls, and most of all just because.

Michelle loved to give. She decided to be a donor to give the gift of life to others. Her warm spirit and bright smile would light up a room.

Michelle is survived by her children, Darrell Rydel Hicks, and Shawn Hicks, longtime companion of 38 years Steven Woodruff, (Stepson) Steven Wright, mother, Annabell Campbell, siblings, Darcia, Yvette, Angela, and Michael, grandchildren, Synia, China, and Ahmeer, one great grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
