Mary L. Hamilton

Mary "Lucy" Hamilton was born on February 8, 1927, in Raleigh, North Carolina. She passed on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

Lucy received her education in the city of Wilmington Public Schools, graduating from Howard High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Franklin Hamilton and from this marriage, 6 children were born. Lucy worked in sales at John Wanamaker's for many years and retired from that great store.

Sister Hamilton was a faithful member of the Jehovah's Witnesses. She was baptized on April 6, 1985, and attended the South Wilmington Congregation.

Lucy had many interests. She loved listening to music, especially old school, Frank Sinatra, Luther Vandross, and Johnny Mathis. She was also quite a dancer and would show off her moves at home and once in the middle of a store at the beach when she heard an 80's tune. She was also a great cook. She loved being surrounded by young people-no senior center for her. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren gave her such pleasure when they came to visit. She also loved cats and made sure that the family always had one. She loved gardening and once received honorable mention in a Wilmington Garden Content for her almost perfect Lambs Ear plants.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Franklin W. Hamilton, Sr. and their son, Franklin W. Hamilton, Jr.

Lucy is survived by her daughters; Aileen "Bunnie" Anderson, Pamela R Henderson, Robin L. Hamilton, and by her sons, David H. Hamilton (Julie) and James R. Hamilton. In addition a devoted granddaughter and caretaker, Shantelle L. Henderson. Lucy is also survived by her grandchildren; Kimberly Haile, Nyree Anderson, Kamilah Brown, Franklin Brown, Taraye Goldsberry, Steven Henderson, Michelle McCauslin, Vanessa Hawkins, Cassandra Hamilton, Durrell Hamilton, Corey Boyer, and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
