Age 86. Martha Smith was born October 25, 1927 in Aliceville, Alabama, the daughter of the late Willie and Anna Long. Martha had her early childhood education in Aliceville, AL. She furthered her eduction in Philadelphia at Cartier Beauty School where she graduated in 1964. In 1961, she met and wedded the late Lewis N. Smith and raised 4 wonderful children; Lewis and Martha were married for over 20 years. Martha worked as a cafeteria cook at Patterson Elementary School of Philadelphia School District. Martha accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and joined Triumph Baptist Church. She was a faithful member and a servant for the Lord while serving as a Deaconess for many years. Martha was a strong loving woman who was pure at heart. She believed in helping all those around her. Martha was vibrant, fun loving and positive light of life. She had in infectious smile that would illuminate any area that her presence allowed. Martha is renowned for her famous phone greeting "Praise the Lord". She was a mother to the motherless and always willing to lend a helping hand. Martha was a hairdresser for over 10 years, loved crocheting, and also a dedicated member of the Red Hat Society and Golden Age Club. Martha is predeceased by her brother Clarence and sisters Mary and Lena. She is survived by son Daniel Cole and wife Mildred of Frederica, DE; daughter Anna Lee and her husband, Roger of Wilmington, DE; son, Leonard Smith and his wife Lydia of Dover, DE; son, Alvin Smith, Sr. and his wife, Belinda of Burlington, NJ and she also leaves to cherish 13 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
