Lucille Jackson McManus was born July 13, 1933 in Blackville, South Carolina. She departed this life on January 31, 2024, leaving a legacy of service to the Lord, her family, and all who knew her.
Lucille was raised by her grandparents, James Sr., and Almetter Jackson. She attended public schools in Wilmington, Delaware and obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree from Delaware State College.
Lucille was widowed at the tender age of 33 with five young children, whom she poured her heart into raising.
She taught kindergarten through third grade for 37 years. After retiring she opened a home preschool teaching 3 to 5-year-olds for ten years.
In 1945 she joined New Calvary Baptist Church where she was a faithful member for 79 years. She served on and held various positions,
Youth Director, Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent and more. She also served in the Baptist Training Union and in the National Baptist Convention.
She was a leader and member of Bible Study Groups in her community, the last being a group of seniors in her apartment building.
She continued to share the Word of God with family by having a single. Scripture texted to all of them every Monday.
Lucille was preceded into eternal life by her husband, Douglas McManus (1966); son, Michael D. McManus (2022); grandson, Corey D. McManus (2014); step-grandsons,
Howard Miller (2018) and Tyrone Nichols (2023).
She leaves to cherish her memory: four daughters, Angel McManus-Brown (Carmen Brown); Darlene McManus; Almetter L. McManus; Valerie L. Brown (Paul); daughter-
in-law, Lisa Bomberger (Michael). Grandsons: DaShawn L. McManus (Stephanie); Michael D. McManus II; Darrin A. McManus; Deven A. McManus (Jenice) and Paul R.
Brown, II. Granddaughters: Tanna M. White (Brandon, Sr.); Artiera D. McManus and Victoria L. Brown. Step-grandsons: Bryon Miller and Tarrence Nichols (Erin). Great-
grandchildren: Kadayah, Domonique, Kameron, DaShawn, Jr., Davin, Jalysa, Cianni, Damyah, Leilah, Jah’Zion, Ta’Mia, Brandon, Jr., Amias, Ta’Lula, Onyx, Freya, Brylee,
Braelynn, Bryon Jr., Christian, Chloe, Remy, Carl and a host of nephews, nieces,
cousins, other family members and friends.
