Juliet Brown

January 23, 1953 — April 6, 2024

Juliet “Sister” Brown was a native of Camden, Alabama (Wilcox County) to the late Weston Brown and Flora Brown on January 23, 1953. Juliet was educated in the Public School System and graduated from Camden Academy High School in 1971. After graduating, she moved to Boston, Massachusetts to be with her three sisters who had also relocated there.

Juliet accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and became an active member of the New Hope Baptist Church. She was a very active member and enjoyed singing with the church choir.

Juliet met and married Bobby Lighty and in 1989 they became proud parents of one daughter, Tamara, proudly nicknamed “Precious” by her mother.

Juliet was employed with Boston Edison for many years. Juliet made the decision to move to Delaware with Tamara in 1996. In Delaware, Juliet changed her career path and became a business owner. Her great love for children inspired her to open her in home daycare business affectionately named “Precious Gifts Daycare”. Her love for children also motivated her to become a foster parent for a few years. Juliet found a church home at Union Baptist Church in Wilmington, DE where she performed secretarial duties and was a member of the choir.

Juliet loved people and always greeted everyone with a big, bright beautiful smile. She loved referring to everyone as “Darling” or “Baby” whether they were family, friends or strangers. She loved to sing, dance, have a good time and clean, clean and clean some more! Juliet loved to keep a clean home and her clothes were always crisp and freshly ironed. Let us not forget about her love for a fresh white pair of Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers. Her sense of humor often kept you in stitches. She loved to make people laugh by dancing or imitating people just like her mother, Flora.

Juliet was preceded in death by her father, Weston Brown and her mother Flora Brown.

She leaves to cherish precious memories her loving daughter Tamara F. Lighty (Jaylesia), two grandchildren Trent and Ta’Myra, her caregiver Tjuana Dumpson, her longtime friend Linda Vanderhurst (Donnie), Bollingbrook, IL, three sisters, Claudia Sullivan, Charlotte NC, Flora B. Tucker, Boston, MA and Daisy L. Cochran, New Castle, DE; two brothers, Willie James Brown (Carolyn), Camden, AL, David James Brown, Thomasville, AL, two “special cousins”, Lula Elliott, Wilmington, DE, Freddie Brown (Lavern), Newark, DE; a host of nieces, nephews and many loving friends.
