James David Garrett

On December 28, 2020, James David Garrett, born December 8, 1937 in Bedford, VA, lovingly transitioned from this life. He was 83 years old. James (known to family and friends as Dave) was the youngest son of John Woody and Alcora Garrett born on December 8, 1937. James received his childhood education from Virginia public schools and later relocated from Virginia to New Jersey as a young man in pursuit of a better life. Dave was well known locally. He loved his family and was instrumental in helping many of them establish new lives in New Jersey and Delaware. James worked as a union Machine Operator for the Operating Engineers Local 825. Being from the country, James loved the outdoors. You could find him working on cars, machines and lawn equipment. He maintained a lawn mower repair service for several years. He also loved cooking and eating down-home meals whereby nothing was off the table. Dave also loved to travel and going to the casino. James was predeceased by siblings, Willie, Frill, Ezell, Samuel, Odell, Everett, Frank, Virginia Ann Harvey and Shirley Hill. He leaves to cherish his memory Alcora (Betty) Saunders, Vonnie (Sis) Moon, Kitty (Mary), Margaret (Bea) Moon, step children: Sharon Caulk-Stewart, Kim Jones, George Roane; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Special mention to Mary Gross, Louise Harvey, Milgee Taylor, Charlie Smith, Eddie Thomas, and Jimmy White for their care and devotion.
