Jackie Cosden Jr.

Jackie Cosden Jr. was born on May 17, 1966, to Maryann Cosden and Jackie Cosden, Sr. both of Wilmington Delaware. Jackie Jr. unexpectedly departed this earthly life on Saturday, April 16, 2022. His wife, Rozanna (Patty) shared 31 years of his life.

Jackie graduated from Wilmington High School in 1984. During his high school years, he developed a passion for swimming and track. He became a trophy champion on the track team and was featured in several publications of the Delaware News Journal. He also participated in the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

After graduating from High School, Jackie went to Job Corps in Maryland where he studied to become an electrician. Jackie became fascinated with the trade, and he was a quick learner. He was so good that after three months into the two-year program his instructor allowed him to mentor and train his peer students. After completing the Job Corps program, he returned to Wilmington Delaware and received his license as a Certified Journeyman.

During his thirty plus years as an electrician he worked for numerous companies. In 2014, Jackie enrolled in the City of Wilmington's Small Business Success Series program and started his own company, Cosden Construction Company, as a Sole Proprietor. He was a hard worker with a network of skilled tradesmen who also taught him cabinetry and other building skills. Jackie would periodically take his son and grandchildren on jobs to give them some experience in the trades.

Jackie was a fun-loving guy with a million-dollar pearly white smile. He was a happy person full of love, laughter, and life. In his childhood days the kids in the neighborhood called him "Happy Jack." He loved his family and enjoyed challenging his children with questions about life. He found so much joy in teasing his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jackie was always ready to showcase them on his cell phone to whomever he was talking to. He absolutely adored them.

Jackie and Patty had a large happy family with eleven grandchildren, so family events were always exciting and full of love and fun. Summer cookouts and holidays were always festive. Jackie loved food, and more food! He loved to dance and listen to the soulful oldies.

His favorite movie(s) was the Friday series, (Friday, Next Friday, and Friday after Next.) He would watch the series over and over and his laughter would increase each time. Jackie's main hobby was chess. His father was a chess champion and taught him how to play at an early age.

Jackie was a good son to his father and always found time to check on his mother. He wanted to make sure she was not only in good health but, also to make sure she was safe. Of course, he always left her with laughter, a kiss, and his signature pearly white smile. He would frequently touch base with his big brother Ed to get a few words of wisdom and a little brotherly love. His visits to his little sister Melaney would be filled with fun-fussing, teasing, and the traditional forehead kiss of love. Jackie wanted to make sure everyone was "O.K." He was a very caring person with a huge heart. Jackie had a great relationship with his stepmother (Audrey Scott-Hynson), her sisters, nieces, and nephews. His stepmother's family adored Jackie and fully embraced him with love whenever he went to see them in the Maryland. He was as much family as her daughter.

Jackie especially doted on his children. Anyone could see his heart fill joy and chest swell with pride accompanied by his pearly whites when the spoke of them. He created the fondest memories of go-carting, mini-golf and other family activities with Shalon and Lakesha. He passed on the knowledge of chess to his son Jackie. Jackie made every father-daughter moment with Kasey one to be forever cherished.

His spiritual journey began in his late teen years. Jackie was a strong believer in the Word of God. He was mentored throughout his spiritual journey by Pastor Scott of Antioch Church, where he served on the Deacon Board.

Jackie is preceded in death by his sister Darlene Hollis, his brother Samuel Maurice Cosden and his grandparents Raymond Saunders, Mable Strong and Lucy Whitfield, Jackie leaves the following loved ones to cherish his memory: His devoted wife Rozanna M. Bordrick, his Daughters Kasey Cosden, Lakesha Bordrick, Shalon Bordrick, and his son Jackie Isaiah James Cosden. Brother Edward Nathaniel Johnson, his wife Donna Lisa and sisters Crystal Moody and Melaney Scott-Cosden: His beloved Mother Maryann Cosden, Father Jackie Cosden Sr., Stepmother Audrey Scott-Hynson, Mother-in-Law, Loretta Bordrick-Scott. Grandmother Doris Hynson and Grandchildren: Shyheim, Trevon, Kristopher, Kamari, Kharie, Kayana, Robert, Shalon, Erik, Josiah, Jyheim and a host of aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
