Helen Moore

June 21, 1948 — June 19, 2023

Helen Leggett Moore was born on June 21,1948, in Maxton, North Carolina to Slathy James Sr. and Minnie D. Leggett. She departed this life on June 19, 2023 in Wilmington, Delaware after a long and hard fight.

Helen received her early childhood education from Number Seven Elementary School, Maxtom, North Carolina. In 1966 Helen graduated from R. B. Dean High School in Maxton, North Carolina. After moving to Delaware, Helen worked as a lab technician at Dupont for 30 years.

Helen had two sons, Pedro Moore and Slathy James Moore, from her love and partnership with Daniel "Dickey" Walley. Daniel, Pedro, Slathy and Helen's sister Linda displayed their love, commitment and gratitude by faithfully visiting and tending to her needs and care during Helen's battle with her health.

Helen loved the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church in New Castle, Delaware. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and gardening, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandson Winston. Helen was influential in her son Slathy and grandson Winston’s education. Helen was a natural engineer and loved creating practical solutions to problems and fun new ways to entertain Winston. Winston’s favorite was the train she created by using bungee cords, chairs and step stools. Helen believed she was born to give and to be a caretaker of others. Helen unselfishly helped the hungry, the homeless, the sick and those simply down on their luck. Helen gave of her time, resources, money and would even give the coat off of her back. Helen believed God was her provider and as long as she gave to others, He would always take care of her.

Helen was preceded in death by her father, Slathy Sr., mother, Minnie Leggett, three brothers, Slathy Leggett Jr., Carl Leggett and Dwight Leggett.
