Gladys Scott

June 5, 1926 — February 7, 2022

Our beloved mother Gladys Scott was born on June 5, 1926 in Norfolk, VA to the late Evelyn and Arthur Copening Sr. Gladys departed this life on February 7, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family. She received her education in the public schools in Norfolk, VA. Gladys married the late Samuel Scott. Their love lasted 46 years until his death in 2012.

Gladys enjoyed cooking, singing, watching comedies on television, going to church, and traveling. Holidays were magical with family, good friends good food lots of love, and fun. Gladys was a great cook; her homemade yeast rolls were legendary and a family favorite. Her chicken and dumplings were the next most requested dish. She took her time and cooked low and slow she would tell her grandchildren who sat around her waiting for the food to be done, "Good things come to those who wait". Cooking for her family was her love language. Gladys had a great work ethic. Rain, snow, blizzard, not much would keep her from going to work. She led by example the importance of working hard and when she retired, she treated herself to some traveling. She was on the go taking trips with her friends at the senior center. She loved watching comedies to laugh, the sitcom "Martin" was one of her favorites. Gladys also loved watching the Old Westerns. She was strong, hardworking of the highest integrity, and fun to be around. Her presence will be missed more than words can express, by all who knew her and loved her. Rest in Paradise.

She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Scott, Daughters; Sylvia Faison, Linda Shields, son; Alvin Wright, sisters Mabel Smoot, Lillie Mae Walker, Mary Johnson, Bessie Perkins, Geneva Copening, and Brother Benjamin Copening.

Gladys leaves to cherish her memory; two daughters Donna Fleetwood, and Margaret Wright, one son; Gregory Scott, one brother; Arthur Copening, Jr. and sister in law; Rose Copening, grandchildren; Joseph Shields, Rhonda Faison, Raymond Shields, Darren Clowers, Donna Moller, Tonia Fleetwood, Tanngie Fleetwood-Johnson, Bennie Clowers(Deceased), Tarina Fleetwood-Perin, Andrew Wiggins, Latasha Wright, Lisa Wright, Terrilien Fleetwood, Jamie Fleetwood, Jaquan Alston, and Mia Scott. 18 great grand, 8 great-great grands, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
