Elma Louise Benns daughter of the late Arthur and Willie Lee Daye was born on June 23, 1926 in North Hampton County, North Carolina. Louise entered eternal life on June 10, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Mother Benns was educated in the North Hampton County public schools. On February 3, 1947, Louise married the late Stewart M. Benns, Sr. in Courtland, Virginia. They migrated to Wilmington, Delaware and from this union four children were born; Stewart, Jr., Bernard, Donald and Edward. Louise was employed for a number of years as a Domestic Worker in North Wilmington. Mother Benns attended Ebenezer Baptist Church before joining Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in the early 1960's. She was a faithful, quiet member who didn't look for outward appreciation but worked for the glory of God. She was a Missionary and served on the Usher Board. Mother Benns also was a member of the Silver Moon Club. Louise was a God fearing woman who was well respected by her family and friends. She was a loving mother who provided calming but steady influence over her children. She enjoyed watching sports especially the Phillies and 76ers as well as always keeping herself well informed by watching and listening to the daily news. Louise was preceded in death by her beloved husband Stewart Benns, Sr. She leaves to cherish her memories 4 sons, Stewart, Jr. (Sherry), Bernard (Mazie), Donald Sr. (Erica) and Edward ( Rose); 1 brother Hinton Daye ( Beulah), 1 sister Geneva Thomas; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
