Deaconess Evelyn Elizabeth Blount

July 1, 1923 — March 5, 2019

Evelyn E. Blount, daughter of the late William and Helen Green was born on July 1, 1923 in Norfolk, Virginia. She peacefully departed this life to join her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Kentmere Manor. Mother Blount received her early education in Wilmington, Delaware and was a graduate of Howard High School. Although she held several jobs outside of the house, her primary role was that of a homemaker, a role in which she took great pride in. Mother Blount was united in Holy Matrimony to her beloved husband, James Blount. They were married for 77 years before his death. From this union, one daughter, Barbara Lovell was born Until her illness prevented her, Mother Blount was a faithful, dedicated member of New Mt Bethel Baptist Church. She has been a member since 1946 serving her church as a Deaconess since 1979. She served the church as a Trustee, Church Treasurer and as Director of the Board of Christian Education. Mother Blount gave her time and talents to the church as a member of the Floral Club, Sunday School, and Mass and Senior Choirs. Mother Blount was a member of ADAH Chapter #1, where she was a past Matron and a past Worthy Grand Matron of St. Matthews Grand Chapter OES PHA, Jurisdiction of Delaware. Mother Blount was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister and friend to many. She was a strict task master, but had a heart of gold. She loved her family, especially her beloved Jimmy and great grandson Jared whom she adored. During her early years, she was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed traveling with her beloved Eastern Stars. Mother Blount was truly blessed to have lived on this earth for 95 years. Mother Blount leaves to cherish her precious memory, her devoted daughter, Barbara Lovell; granddaughter Crystal Lewis; great grandson Jared Lewis; adopted granddaughter, Colette Hopkins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and an endless list of friends.
