Darryl Tyrone Price

September 4, 1964 — May 8, 2023

Darryl Tyrone Price, age 58 was born in Wilmington, Delaware on September 4, 1964, to Frances Price Stafford. He departed this life on Monday, May 8, 2023 at his home in the city of Wilmington.

Darryl accepted Christ at an early age at St. Paul UAME Church where he was an active member of the Sunday School, the Youth Choir and the Junior Ushers during his youth. At the time of his death, Darryl was as an active, faithful member of Christ Baptist Church, where he loved reading and listening to the scripture, and singing the Songs of Zion.

Also, during his formative years, Darryl attended the Christina Cultural Arts Center studying drums. He was a member of the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows, Juveniles for twelve years which gave him an opportunity to travel throughout the United States, the Bahamas, and Canada to attend the Biennial Movable Conferences.

Darryl received his early education in the Wilmington Public Schools and was a 1982 graduate of Glasgow High School. After graduating from high school, Darryl attended Delaware State University, formerly known as DSC, and Delaware Technical and Community College.

Darryl loved spending his leisure time with his beloved son Darion. He had many hobbies and interests, including cooking Sunday Dinner for his family and friends, barbecuing, playing cards, feeding the birds, and because he loved the look of a well-manicured and beautiful lawn, cutting grass. He loved sports and on any given Sunday, you could find him watching football with his friends. His favorite team was the San Francisco 49ers. Darryl possessed a passion for helping others and sharing his gifts with the world. He was somewhat of a Jack of All Trades.

At the time of his death, Darryl was employed by the New Castle County Vocational Technical School District at the Howard High School of Technology, where he was employed for over 15 years, where his colleagues thought of him as an amazing individual who cared for everyone. In fact, the department chief at Howard, Jeff Thomas, having supervised Darryl for the past 8 years reports that he spoke to Darryl when he stopped by the office almost every day before starting his shift to check if there were any particular needs requiring attention during each evening. Jeff stated that in his 35 years as a facilities staffer, he’d never worked with a more dedicated, honest, standup guy, who was truly a genuine person as was Darryl. The work area for which Darryl was solely responsible was by far, the cleanest, neatest, organized, school ready area of any in the District, bar none! A true testament to Darryl’s character and work ethic.

Preceded in death by his mother Frances Price Stafford, his sisters Barbara S. Parker and Donella Hodges, and brother Victor J. Stafford, Darryl leaves to cherish his memories: his beloved son Darion, his sisters Carol S. Wright and Debra E.
