What a blessed day it was on April 18 th , 1970 in Wilmington, Delaware, when Carolyn Robertson
gave birth to a bouncing, beautiful, baby girl Charmian Edna Robertson.
Growing up in Newark, Delaware, with her mother and her brother, who both preceded her in
death, Charmian received her education in the Glasgow school system.
Charmian gave birth to 4 beautiful Robertson children, three girls, Starr Sahara, Carolyn Le’trise,
Kayla Chanell, and one boy, Michael Daniel. On one destiny day in her life, Charmian met the love
of her life, the late Gatefred W. Bivins II (Kwan) and together they had two children one boy
Gatefred ‘Wayde’ Bivins III and one girl, Patience Nikkole Bivins. This blended family, which later
grew to include grandchildren, and extended family, fully filled Charmian’s life with love, laughter,
and support. It was her joy to hang out with them, on beach vacations, trips to the amusement
parks, gathering for seafood feasts, special holidays or just their intimate times of sitting in front of
the TV watching movies as a family.
Charmian accepted the Lord as Savior and was baptized at Victory Christian Fellowship in New
Castle, Delaware. As Charmian moved several times, she united with a church in the area where
she lived. Along with her family, Charmian frequently attended Canaan Baptist Church in New
Castle, Delaware. Through the years as Charmian faced the challenges of life, she grew in her
spiritual walk with God, verbally confessing her love for the Lord, declaring her salvation, and often
sharing her rich compelling testimony with others.
Charmian spent a great deal of time with her extended family in Roslyn, Pennsylvania. She worked
in the family’s Christian bookstore. With intelligence and sharp wit, Charmian could pick up on
completing tasks quickly in whatever method was necessary. She would help put order to
household chores and family holiday meals. Charmian would always ask “is there anything else I
can do”.
On Monday, February 27th in the arms of the angels, who were appointed to her, Charmian
answered the voice of the Lord who she bore witness to in her life, as He called her from this
earthly life to her heavenly home in the presence of Christ Jesus.
There are no words that can fully express how much we will miss this loving mother, daughter,
grandmother, relative and friend. She leaves to cherish her memory, keep her legacy of the love
of family and carry her tradition of gathering together: her daughters, Starr, Carolyn, Kayla and
Patience; her sons, Michael and Wayde; her grandchildren Jabri, Janyah, Malayah, Kimora, Jahsir
and Brooke; her extended mother, Patricia Hill along with the extended family of the late Gatefred
W. Bivins II (Kwan) and host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
