Charlotte Jeneva Fowlkes

July 18, 1941 — October 31, 2020

Charlotte Fowlkes was born on July 18, 1941, in Roseville, Virginia to the late Frances and Randolph Simpson. She peacefully passed away in the comfort of her home on October 31, 2020, surrounded by family.

After moving to Pennsylvania in the 1950s, Charlotte married the love of her life, James Fowlkes when she was 18. With the love that the two shared, they welcomed five children: James Jr, Michael, Edna, Mark, and Glenn. Charlotte spent more than 10 years raising her children with undivided attention until she decided to return to school. She then received her associates degree in early childhood education from The Delaware County Community College. With this, she developed a love for teaching and became an educator to young people. Later, Charlotte entered into the collectibles industry and became a coin operator at The Franklin Mint, where she retired after 25 years of service.

As a Christian woman, Charlotte dedicated a huge part of her life to the church. She was known as a prominent MC throughout Chester, a faithful member of The Prayer Band, and a loud joyful soul in the choir. Outside of church, Charlotte loved hosting large family gatherings, cooking Sunday dinners, baking holiday pies, and taking trips to visit her family in Virginia.

Charlotte is preceded in death by her mother Frances Simpson, father Randolph Simpson, brothers Lawrence Simpson, Elwood Simpson, and Haleem Ibin Abdul Rahim, sisters Shirley Washington and Renee Jackson, and grandson James Flood.

Charlotte is survived by her husband of 61 years James Fowlkes; sons, James Fowlkes Jr., Michael Fowlkes (Evelyn), Mark Fowlkes and Glenn Fowlkes (Vashti); daughter, Edna Peterson; brother, William Simpson (Carol); her true best friend, Mary Yvonne Hicks; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
