Benjamin C.L. Rhoades

Benjamin C. L. Rhoades was January 20, 1916, in Avondale, Pennsylvania, to Margaret Palmer Ringgold and Issac Francis. Benjamin was self-employed for a number of years where he operated a restaurant and bicycle shop and performed private contracting which included home interior remodeling. In 1947 Benjamin was an employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital as a Nursing Assistant. Later, he received his lincense as Practical Nurse. On the job he was affectionately known as "Uncle Ben". He retire after 43 years of service and won several awards. After retirement, Benjamin devoted his time to professional landscaping and private duty nursing. He had a heart for the needs of others that went beyond race, creed, and color. He was constantly helping, giving, and sharing to meet their needs. After spending sometime without a church home, Benjamin rededicated his life to the Lord and became a member of Mt. Zion Holy Christian Church II under the pastorate of his granddaughter, Apostle Dawn S. Christopher. Benjamin was preceded in death by his brothers, Sherman and Lawrence Ringgold, sisters Eva Stout and Pearl Jones. He leaves to mourn, his wife of 67 years, Sara; daughter, Gwendolyn; son, Stevin; granddaughter, Dawn; grandson in-law, Calvin; great-granddaughters Tiffany and Ashley; sisters-in-law, Rev. Rachel Scott, Ruth Walters, Nancy Randolph, Frieda Ringgold, Dorothy Ringgold; brothers-in-law, Elijah Ringgold, Rev. David L.
